This blog is by no means written by a fashion or sustainability expert. Instead, you have a young woman (or so I like to think) who is simply interested in making better choices when purchasing clothes, shoes, and accessories.
If you are like me, you have realized that we are overconsuming almost everything, but very little is still talked about fashion and how polluting and damaging this industry is to the environment and local communities. It seems that just a few fashion designers have taken the lead in trying to bring more light into the issues the fashion industry is currently facing, but an ordinary consumer is still rather clueless.
In my opinion, reusable coffee cups and wooden straws get much more attention than for example an organically made pair of jeans. Even people who are very passionate about sustainability often ignore the fashion industry entirely. Yet it is the second most polluting industry to the environment after oil and gas.
Why is it and why do so many fast fashion brands still get so much recognition? I know price is an important factor, but what about promoting simply buying fewer clothes? Is it that hard for us to give up on those emotional highs after every new purchase? What if we seek these dopamine boosts by doing something else instead, for example going hiking? It works they say.
So while I am looking into different topics about sustainable fashion and the issues in the fashion and textile industry, I will be sharing them with you in this blog. Hopefully, you learn something new and by simply being more aware, make better purchasing choices.
I am extremely glad you found your way here and took the time to read this short intro and the blog. If you wish to reach out, please send me an email via info[at]organicclothing.info.
